Web Project Roadmap: From Idea and MVP to Production
A roadmap connects a business goal to concrete delivery stages. It should show not only a release date but also dependencies, decision points, risks, and quality gates between the idea and production.
Stage 1: Discovery
Define goals, users, scenarios, MVP boundaries, integrations, constraints, and technical risks. The output should be a scope that can actually be estimated.
It is cheaper to revise assumptions several times during discovery than to carry uncertainty into development.
Stage 2: UX and architecture
Design key user flows, page or screen structure, data models, and component interactions.
For complex products this stage also defines APIs, roles, permissions, integration patterns, and major infrastructure decisions.
Stage 3: Development
Build in iterations so each stage ends with a verifiable result instead of a single large release after months of work.
High-risk modules and integrations should often be implemented early so technical limitations are discovered before launch.
Stage 4: QA and production
Verify user flows, roles, responsive behavior, integrations, error handling, performance, SEO foundations, and production configuration.
Backups, analytics, logging, monitoring, and rollback procedures should be ready before the public release.
Stage 5: Growth
Production provides real data about user behavior, conversion, performance, operational bottlenecks, and feature demand.
The roadmap should then evolve from assumptions into a prioritized product plan based on evidence.
